I actually did a post at the beginning of the year about series I want to read this year, and I am very happy to say that I did actually start two of them (and completed one)! I feel like my list of what I want to read has grown SO much lately, so I felt like I was due for another list. This list doesn’t include series that are upcoming!
BOOKS I ALREADY OWN
THE FIFTH SEASON BY N.K. JEMISIN (completed at 3 books)
This series was on my last list, and I still haven’t read it. I did finally buy the first book, but it just intimidates me SO much.
THE NINTH RAIN BY JEN WILLIAMS (completed at 3 books)
I wanted to pick this one up purely because Elliot Brooks loved it and the way she explained the plot and characters was so intriguing.
THE WIZARD OF EARTHSEA BY URSULA K. LE GUIN (completed at 6 books)
On a whim yesterday (and because of a sale), I bought the huge illustrated bind up of this series…I have definitely heard some good things about it, but it is unlike me to buy an entire series before reading any of it.
POISON STUDY BY MARIA V. SNYDER (completed at 3 books, depending on how you look at it)
This book has been on my list FOREVER…seriously, it was the first book I added to my want to read shelf on Goodreads that hasn’t been read yet. I haven’t picked it up yet because the covers are honestly so ugly and the progression of the series is a little confusing.
THE LAST NAMSARA BY KRISTEN CICCARELLI (completed at 3 books)
My best friend recommended this one, so of course I’m going to read it. I haven’t prioritized this one, even though I know a ton of people who have enjoyed it!
SPIN THE DAWN BY ELIZABETH LIM (completed at 2 books)
Another one I know I would like, but I’ve just been too preoccupied with new releases. Plus, I heard there is quite a bit of romance in this one.
THE ASSASSIN’S APPRENTICE BY ROBIN HOBB (completed at 3 books)
Yet another series I’ve been meaning to read forever, but also has ugly covers. Now that the new covers are out/close to being released, I feel like I can take that leap.
BLOOD OF ELVES BY ANDRZEJ SAPKOWSKI (completed at 9(?) books)
Another series with a confusing reading order (just realized Blood of Elves isn’t even first…). I’m interested after watching the show and playing one of the games, but I feel like I’ve heard such conflicting reviews of the books, so it makes me a little wary.
FOUNDRYSIDE BY ROBERT JACKSON BENNETT (2 out of 3 planned books released)
Another one I have also heard mixed reviews about, but it sounds so interesting!
JADE CITY BY FONDA LEE (2 out of 3 planned books released)
I have not heard a single bad thing said about this series!
BLACK SUN BY REBECCA ROANHORSE (1 out of 3 planned books released)
I have never read a book, especially fantasy, set in Pre-Columian America, and honestly, that alone has me intrigued. It also has spectacular reviews!
SERIES I AM UNSURE ABOUT
I actually have the same reasoning behind all three of these series. I was initially interested in them, but after hearing quite a few negative reviews, I’m not sure how I would feel about them. I think I might have outgrown my interest in these, which would honestly be fine, because it’s clear I have plenty of other series to read.
Though, if you want to make a case for these ones either way, I’d love to hear it!
