I made a similar post about six months ago discussing why I think it is good to not finish books sometimes, as well as talking about reasons why I dropped a few books. I figured it was time to do it again because I have had a few notable books recently that I haven’t finished.
Once & Future by Amy Rose Capetta & Cori McCarthy
I wanted to support this book because it seemed really inclusive and the authors live in my state, but I’m generally not to into sci-fi. This book just immediately hit off on the wrong note for me. There wasn’t anything specifically about it, but I was just confused and didn’t really care for the plot set up. I think I only made it about 20-30 pages in, but I was already putting off reading it, so I decided to just cut to the chase and let it go.
Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
I wrote a whole post about this book because it made me that angry. I truly could not stand or relate to the main character, and even though I looked up what happens in the rest of the book, there is no excuse for her to be a rude and judgmental as she was. I am upset that this book is still in my room, to be quite honest.
Descendant of the Crane by Joan He
I didn’t have any problem with this book, but it just wasn’t for me. I didn’t really care about the intrigue or the mysteries. I made it about 70 pages in before noticing that I wasn’t picking it up anymore.
Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean
This is another one that I just don’t think was for me. The premise seemed interesting, but there was nothing keeping me interested in the actual story.
Butterfly Yellow by Thanhha Lai
I was so excited to read this book, but it was just such a letdown to me. I didn’t care about one of the perspectives. I also got confused a lot because it felt like scenes changed without the reader being told. I was really interested in the story of this book, but the set up and writing just got in the way.
Dark Age by Pierce Brown
I really enjoyed the first three books in the Red Rising series, but after the fourth, I kind of lost my patience with the story and the main character. I figured I would give this series one last shot with this book, but I just couldn’t do it. It was so focused on interplanetary battle, which is not my thing at all. I also got confused a bunch of times regarding who was speaking. I’m just totally done with this series now.
