Non-Spoiler Review:

I wasn’t planning on reading this book because I don’t normally love novellas set in series, but I saw it at the bookstore for wicked cheap, so I had to get it! I finished the Daughter of Smoke & Bone series in November, so it has been some time.

My favorite thing about this book is that it reminds me of why I love the series, as well as Laini Taylor’s writing. Her writing speaks to me, like it’s probably my absolute favorite style of writing. I really did love the series, but it dragged on a little bit and there was some stuff at the end that I did not enjoy, so I feel like I left off the series on a bad note. This book reminded me that I love Zuzana and Karou, as well as their friendship. I was even thinking about how cool the wish system is semi-recently, and this book just reinforced that.

As for the plot itself, I can’t remember if Zuzana ever tells Karou any details of this event in the main series, but I thought it was cute! I don’t think it helped me to understand Zuzana or Mik as characters, but it was enjoyable. I do tend to feel this way about a lot of novellas. They are cute and fun, but not necessary in the grand scheme of the rest of the series.

I think if you enjoyed this series and you can find this book on sale or check it out of the library, it would be a fun read!
