I feel like the vast majority of 2019 releases I was hyped for were from January, February, and May, but there are still a few big releases this year that I can not wait for! There are definitely other books I’m keeping my eye on, but these are the ones that can’t come fast enough.
Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson (June 4th)
I know this isn’t in the second half of the year, but I’m still very excited! I really loved An Enchantment of Ravens, and the synopsis for this book sounds so interesting! I know it is about some sort of magical library, and honestly, that had me sold. My biggest complaint about AEOR was that it could have been longer, and this book is going to be over 400 pages, so I am excited to see what Margaret can do with that!
Dark Age (Red Rising #5) by Pierce Brown (July 30th)
This is the book I have the most mixed feelings about. I really enjoyed reading the original Red Rising trilogy, but Iron Gold was a miss for me. I was still really invested in the original characters, but I thought the story and format was boring and all the feelings I had gathered for Darrow just went down the drain. I am hoping that Dark Age can be better, especially since Pierce has spent extra time working to make it great.
The World of Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas (October 1st)
I am still not quite sure exactly what this book is going to be, but since it has to with Throne of Glass, I’m here for it. It sounds like it could either match the rest of the series and just have a lot of black and white illustrations, or it could be in color on glossy pages. Either way, I want it. Charlie Bowater is doing the art for a lot of it (if not all) and I adore her work. She also did two of the covers above (Sorcery of Thorns and Starsight)! I am a little skeptical that it will actually be released in October though. It keeps getting pushed back and there is still very little information about it.
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo (October 1st)
I am so excited to see Leigh Bardugo step out of the Grishaverse! While I loved Six of Crows and The Language of Thorns, I didn’t care for The Shadow and Bone trilogy or King of Scars. This new book is going to be adult rather than young adult and urban fantasy rather than high fantasy. It definitely sounds like it will be dark and all the early reviews I’ve seen are very positive.
The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh (October 8th)
I’ve never actually finished a series by Renee Ahdieh, but I am SO excited for this book! It is about vampires and I am absolutely ready for vampires to be a trend again. It seems kind of dark, but in the most appealing way. I really enjoyed The Wrath and the Dawn when I read it and I thought Flame in the Mist was pretty good, but I just couldn’t get myself to finish or pick up the sequels to those books. Hopefully, I won’t have that issue with this book.
The Queen of Nothing (The Folk of Air #3) by Holly Black (November 19th)
I didn’t think this book was going to be on this list! It was originally going to be released in January, but it got moved way forward! I really love this series, and with the cliffhanger that the second book ended on, I need the last one ASAP! I love faeries and Holly just is so good at writing them and immersing the reader in the world of the fae. I really have no idea how this series will end, but I am so ready for this book.
Starsight (Skyward #2) by Brandon Sanderson (November 26th)
Skyward is possibly my favorite sci-fi book, so I am ready for the next one! It was the first Brandon Sanderson book I read, and I obviously liked it enough to try out his other books as well. I think he just plans out stories so well and as a reader, I really appreciate that. After seeing what he could do with the Mistborn triology, I am really excited to see what he can do with a four book series.
